Firearm Refinishing & Gun Bluing
Ron’s Gun Shop offers professional firearm refinishing for everything from well-used sporting firearms to vintage guns in need of renewed protection and appearance. Available finishes include hot bluing, slow rust bluing, Parkerizing, and Cerakote, with each project evaluated individually to determine the most appropriate finish and level of preparation.
Available Firearm Finishes
Ron’s Gun Shop has provided firearm service and metal refinishing since 1964. The quality of the finished work begins with careful polishing and surface preparation, along with an understanding of how different steels, alloys and firearm designs respond to refinishing. We offer hot bluing, slow rust bluing, Parkerizing and Cerakote, with each project evaluated individually.
Hot Bluing
A traditional factory-style finish suitable for many modern and vintage firearms. The final appearance can range from a soft satin black to a highly polished blue, depending on the metal preparation.
Slow Rust Bluing
A durable traditional finish especially well suited to older firearms and double-barrel shotguns with soldered ribs. Rust bluing produces a deep, understated finish with excellent wear resistance.
Parkerizing
A durable matte phosphate finish commonly associated with military firearms. Parkerizing provides a practical, nonreflective appearance and good corrosion protection when properly maintained.
Cerakote
A thin ceramic-based coating available in a wide variety of colors. Cerakote offers strong wear and corrosion resistance and can be useful for modern firearms or components made from different alloys.
Choosing the Right Finish
Condition and Intended Use
Every refinishing project begins with the firearm itself. We consider its age, construction, existing finish, amount of wear or corrosion and how the firearm will be used before recommending an approach.
Preparation Determines the Result
Bluing and other finishes do not conceal the condition of the metal beneath them. Careful polishing and surface preparation determine whether the finished firearm has a soft satin appearance, a traditional factory-style polish or a higher-luster finish.
